Caroline Bailey, Living Landscapes
Biodiversity Officer says, "The focus this week is on butterflies
as the Big Butterfly Count [July 24 to August 1] is being launched
to mark the International Year of Biodiversity. Butterfly
monitoring and the management of their habitats are a crucial part
of the work we do year-round on our reserves, so why not indulge in
a butterfly bonanza this week? Google Big Butterfly Count, download
an identification chart - it has great pictures - and take part in
the Big Butterfly Count; it couldn't be easier. (http://www.bigbutterflycount.org/
)Then, to round off your week, why not come along to one of our
work parties and learn more about the needs of the butterflies you
have been watching - and those needs, especially of some of their
caterpillars, are incredibly specific."
